By positioning a Fuji X-T1 with remote firing attachment on a stand by the drum kit, we are able to get some more interesting shots of drummers.
I'm using a non Fuji lens - a Samyang 12 mm - so there is no auto-focus. But, perhaps this is a good thing, as you have control over how to set the shot up.
For the set up, I clamp the camera to a stand, and swivel to grab focus on the snare drum, before twisting the camera back for better composition.
Shutter speed, as fast as possible, given the limitations stage lighting - although I do have a dimmable Neewer battery lamp if necessary. Shooting F2, and as high ISO as I dare.
I have the remote in my pocket, so quick test while checking the fuji red light is working while writing the images, and we a good to go.
During the set, its a challenge to keep an eye on what the drummer is up to while shooting the band - being ready for those spinning drum sticks and other quirks specific to drummers.
Top tip - keep an eye on the screws on the camera - I've lost some due to vibration, especially if the camera is on a drum riser!!!
